Best Florist in Whitby 2025 & 2026 · Quality Business Awards Canada
She got up early every single morning. She remembered every detail you forgot about yourself. She was there when things went wrong and celebrated quietly when they went right. Mother's Day is one day a year to give something back, and for families across Durham Region, flowers are how most people choose to do it. Not because it's the easy option, but because a hand-crafted mothers day bouquet says something a gift card simply cannot. It says you thought about it. It says you know her.
If you're searching for a mothers day florist in Whitby, Bita Floral is where Durham Region families come for fresh flowers made by hand. Named the best florist in Whitby Ontario by Quality Business Awards Canada two years running, Rouz and his team build every arrangement in the shop using seasonal stems sourced for the week. May in Durham Region has its own feeling: lilacs coming in along the back fences, the last of the cool nights giving way to real warmth. It's the right time of year for mothers day flowers in Durham Region, and Mother's Day falling right in the middle of spring is no coincidence.
Mother's Day is Sunday, May 10, 2026. If peonies or a custom arrangement are on your list, pre-ordering before May 4 is the only way to guarantee what you're after, because stock runs out earlier than most people expect.

Not All Local Whitby Florists Are the Same
Hand-crafted at Bita Floral, Whitby
Whitby has more than one flower shop, and so does Brooklin just up the road. If you've ordered mothers day flowers in Whitby or anywhere in Durham Region before and felt like the arrangement didn't quite match what you had in mind, or the quality wasn't quite there, that's a real experience and it happens.
At Bita Floral, every arrangement is designed by Rouz personally or by a member of his team under his direction. He's been running the shop since 2020, and in 2025 and 2026 Bita Floral was named the best florist in Whitby by Quality Business Awards Canada. There are no template orders pulled from a catalogue. When you describe what you're looking for: the person, the occasion, the feeling you want the flowers to carry. That actually shapes what gets made. You can feel the difference when you see the finished piece.
We're not the right fit for everyone, and we know that. But if the mothers day gift you send matters to you, and you want a custom bouquet from a real Whitby florist, come in, call us, or order flowers online at bitafloral.ca and tell us what you have in mind.
Mothers Day Flowers Durham Region: What's Available at Bita Floral This Spring
Rouz and the team build every arrangement by hand in the Whitby shop, using fresh stems sourced specifically for the season. This is what's in for Mother's Day 2026:
Peonies - sell out every year
Garden-style mixed bouquet - most popular
Mothers day roses are the top single-flower request at our Whitby shop. Purple, pink, white, peach, coral, or garden mixed. Available as traditional bouquets, wrapped stems, or arranged with seasonal greenery. A dozen long-stems is one of the most popular Mother's Day gifts in Durham Region year after year.
Peonies for Mother's Day sell out fast, usually well before the week arrives. They come in limited quantities during a brief late-spring window. If your mom loves peonies, your Whitby florist needs to hear from you early. Pre-order before May 4.
Fresh tulips, ranunculus, anemones, and mixed seasonal blooms in soft pastels or bold spring palettes. Light, cheerful, and unmistakably May.
Our most popular Mother's Day style. Loose, lush arrangements with roses, peonies, tulips, hydrangea, and greenery. Warm pinks, soft whites, and lavender. If you're not sure what she'd love, this is almost always the right call.
Oriental lilies, Asiatic lilies, and Stargazers in white, pink, and coral. Long-lasting, fragrant, and elegant. A classic Mother's Day choice that fills the room. Ask about lily and rose combinations.
Phalaenopsis orchids in white, blush pink, deep purple, and yellow. Stay beautiful for weeks. A favourite for grandmothers and women who appreciate elegance over abundance.
Potted Plants and Living Arrangements
Spring flowering plants, potted herb gardens, and custom planted arrangements. Something that can go straight into the garden once the weather fully warms.
Need something specific? A custom flower arrangement is always available at the Whitby shop. Bring in her favourite vase, describe her colours, or just tell Rouz who she is and he'll take it from there. Not sure where to start? Check the Deal of the Day for a ready-to-go option.
How to Pick the Right Flowers When You Have No Idea What to Get
This is the most common conversation I have in the shop during the week before Mothers Day. Someone walks in, they know they want flowers, and they have absolutely no idea where to start. That's fine by me. Here's how I walk them through it.
Start with who she is, not what's popular. A tidy, minimal home calls for a single potted orchid in white over a big lush bouquet that takes over the kitchen table. A mom who puts fresh flowers on the counter every week actually wants a loose garden-style mix with lots of colour and texture. And if she posts everything on social media, go with peonies or a rose and eucalyptus combination because those photograph well. Match the person, not the occasion.
I've had customers describe their mom's kitchen curtains and I've built an arrangement around that. Someone once told me his mother was "a purple person" and that was enough. You don't need to know a single flower name. You just need to know who she is.
One thing about cats and lilies. If she has cats, mention it when you order. Lilies are toxic to cats and I need to know that before I start building. It's an easy thing to work around but I need the heads-up.
Think about where the flowers are going too. A big centrepiece arrangement doesn't make sense in a small condo. A delicate single-stem orchid might get lost in a large open-concept house. I always ask about the space. Scale matters more than most people think.
When nothing else works, go with a garden-style mixed bouquet in soft pinks and whites. I recommend it for a reason. Works for grandmothers, stepmothers, aunts, and moms. Looks like someone put real thought into it. And it's what I'd send if I didn't know the recipient at all.
Rouz's Pick for Mother's Day 2026
Every year Rouz gets asked the same question: what would you send your own mom? This year, his answer is a garden-style mixed bouquet built around peonies and spray roses in blush and soft white, wrapped loosely in kraft paper with a few stems of eucalyptus tucked in at the edges. Not too structured. Not too formal. The kind of thing that looks like it came from someone who actually thought about it. Because it did.
Peonies are only available for a few weeks in late spring, which is part of what makes them special for Mother's Day. If you want something along those lines, just say so when you order. Rouz can also pair your bouquet with a box of chocolates, a candle, or a handwritten card if you want the gift to arrive as a complete package.

Mother's Day Flowers for Every Maternal Figure in Your Life
Mother's Day in Durham Region has always been about more than just moms. The people who showed up, who stayed, who shaped you. They deserve flowers too.
Grandma
Grandmothers are often the most overlooked. Everyone's attention naturally goes to the generation just above them, and grandmothers get passed over. A beautiful arrangement delivered to her door is a gesture she'll remember for a long time. If you're honouring a grandmother who has passed, Bita Floral also prepares arrangements for gravesites and memorials.
Stepmothers
A thoughtful bouquet carries the message without needing a card that tries to define something that resists easy definition. Let the flowers do the work.
Godmothers and Aunts
The women who showed up when your mom needed backup. A locally made arrangement delivered to their door is a real way to say you noticed. They almost never expect this kind of gesture, which is exactly why it lands so hard.
Order Something for Yourself
There is nothing wrong with treating yourself on Mother's Day. If you're a mom in Durham Region reading this, you've more than earned it. Go for it.
Chosen Family: Not every maternal figure comes with a title. Mother's Day is as good a reason as any to acknowledge those relationships.
Flowers for New Mothers and First Mother's Day
A first Mother's Day is one of the most meaningful flower deliveries we make all year. The baby might be a few weeks old, sometimes only a few days. Mom is exhausted, emotional, and probably hasn't sat down properly since she came home. The flowers that work for this moment are different from a regular Mother's Day order, and the details matter more than usual. Whether you're the partner, the new grandparents, or a friend who wants to do something thoughtful, here's what we'd suggest.
What Works for a New Mom
For a first Mother's Day, soft and gentle is almost always the right direction. Think pale pinks, blush, soft white, dusty lavender, and the occasional cream peony if we have them in stock. The arrangements that land best are the ones that feel calm. New mothers are running on broken sleep and elevated emotion. A loud, dramatic, statement-piece arrangement is not what fits this moment. A garden-style mix that feels gentle does.
Tulips are a strong pick. They're clean, they don't have heavy fragrance, and they carry the meaning of new beginnings, which is exactly what this is. Spray roses in soft pink, ranunculus, sweet peas if they're available, and white hydrangea all work well. If she had her heart set on peonies and we still have stock, peonies are perfect for a first Mother's Day. They photograph beautifully too, and most new moms are taking a lot of photos right now.
A Few Practical Notes for New Babies in the House
Skip the lilies. Lilies have heavy pollen that stains everything it touches, and the fragrance is intense in a small nursery or bedroom. More importantly, lily pollen is toxic to cats, and a lot of new families have a cat already. Just tell us it's for a new mom and we'll leave lilies out without you having to think about it.
Low fragrance is better. Newborns have sensitive everything. Strong floral scents in a small space can be a lot. Tulips, ranunculus, hydrangea, garden roses, and most spring blooms are mild. Stargazer lilies, oriental lilies, and some heavily scented stocks are not.
Easy care matters. She is not going to be trimming stems every two days. Hand her something that survives benign neglect for a week. We use flower food, send a care card, and pick stems that hold up.
Hospital Delivery vs. Home Delivery
If she's still in hospital, call us first. Several Durham Region hospitals restrict fresh flowers in maternity and NICU wards because of allergens and infection control, and policies change. We deliver to Lakeridge Health Oshawa, Ajax Pickering Hospital, and other hospitals across the region regularly, but it's worth a quick check on which ward and whether they're accepting flowers that week. A small bouquet to take home is often the better call.
If she's already home, anything goes. Same-day delivery is available across Whitby, Oshawa, Ajax, Pickering, Brooklin, and Clarington when ordered before our 1:00 PM cutoff. We also include the option of a handwritten card so the message lands with the flowers.
Add-Ons That Actually Get Used
If you want to round out the gift, the things that get used most often by new moms are not the things you'd guess. A scented hand cream goes through faster than you'd expect during the newborn weeks. A small candle for the evening hours when the baby is finally asleep. Chocolates if she's not breastfeeding or has cleared chocolate with her doctor. We carry these as add-ons in the shop and you can include them with the bouquet at checkout.
Tell us it's for a new mom when you order. That one detail changes the whole arrangement. Soft palette, no lilies, mild fragrance, easy care. Browse arrangements or call (905) 233-8595 and we'll build something that fits the moment.
What to Write on Her Mother's Day Card
For Mom: Something honest and specific lands harder than something poetic. Think of one thing she did that you've never properly thanked her for. Even two sentences. She'll keep the card.
For Grandma: Tell her she's thought of. If she lives alone, a card that says you made the effort on this day specifically means more than most people realize.
For a Stepmother: Simple is right. "Thank you for being there" is enough if it's true. The flowers already said it.
For a Godmother or Aunt: Be specific. Name something she did. "I still think about the advice you gave me when I was sixteen" is worth a hundred generic sentiments.
If you're stuck: Call the shop. Rouz has helped plenty of people figure this out.
What Actually Happens at a Flower Shop on Mothers Day Weekend
I've done this enough years now to know exactly how the week plays out. Monday through Wednesday before Mothers Day is when the smart orders come in. Those customers tell me what they want, I source it, and they get exactly what they asked for. Peonies, specific colour palettes, custom arrangements for two or three family members. No stress for anyone.
Thursday and Friday is when it gets busy. The shop is full, the phone doesn't stop, and we're still in good shape on inventory. Most flowers are still available and delivery slots are open. Choices start narrowing though.
Saturday is a different animal. By Saturday afternoon the peonies are gone. Specific colour requests get harder to fill. We're still making beautiful arrangements because that's what we do, but if you wanted something very particular, you're now working with what's left rather than what you chose.
Sunday morning is exactly what you'd expect. Door opens and there's a line. These are the people who forgot, or who thought they'd figure it out later, or who assumed a florist would have unlimited stock on the busiest flower day of the year. We take care of every single one of them and nobody leaves empty-handed. But the customer who called on Tuesday and the one who walks in Sunday morning are not getting the same experience. That's not a sales pitch. Just how flowers work.
One more thing worth knowing: delivery runs through Saturday. On Mother's Day Sunday, the shop is open for pickup with windows in the morning, around noon, and a final one around 2 to 3pm if needed. Pre-order during the week and grab yours on the way to Mom's. That's how the smart ones do it.

Why Order From a Local Whitby Florist Instead of a National Platform?
When you order from 1-800-Flowers, FTD, Teleflora, or a similar service, your order gets relayed to a local florist anyway, but the national platform takes a meaningful cut of what you paid before passing it on. Industry estimates put that cut at 30 to 40 percent of your order total. The photo on the website stays the same; the flowers in the vase don't always match. Some of these orders get routed to shops in Brooklin or Oshawa that you've never heard of, and you have no control over who actually makes the arrangement.
When you order directly from Bita Floral, every dollar goes into the arrangement. Rouz sources the stems, his team builds it, and they deliver mothers day flowers across Durham Region themselves. No relay fees. No middleman. No wondering who actually filled your order. That's the difference between ordering from a local florist in Whitby and ordering from a screen.
The shop is at 728 Anderson St. Unit 8 in Whitby, with free parking, accessible curb entry, and handicapped parking right out front. If you'd rather pick out your arrangement in person, walk in during shop hours and Rouz will help you on the spot. We also handle wedding flowers across Durham Region, sympathy arrangements, birthdays, and everything in between.

How to Make Your Mother's Day Bouquet Last
A few simple steps make a big difference
Rouz gets asked this more than almost anything else. A few things that actually make a difference:
Trim the stems at a 45-degree angle before putting them in water, and again every couple of days. Dull scissors crush the stem. Takes thirty seconds.
Change the water every two days. Bacteria in standing water are what kill flowers early, not age, not air. Keep it cool.
Watch where you put them. Away from direct sun, heating vents, and fruit bowls. Ripening fruit releases ethylene gas that speeds up wilting.
Care Tips by Flower Type
Roses: Remove leaves below the waterline. If a head droops, recut and move to a separate glass for a few hours and it usually comes back. Long-stem roses can last ten days or more with proper care.
Peonies: Tight buds open in warm water within a day or two. Move to a cooler room once bloomed. This is the flower that sells out fastest for Mother's Day, so peonies get ordered early by anyone who knows.
Tulips: Keep in shallow water since they continue growing after being cut. Expect them to bend toward light, which is normal. Recut every few days and they stay vibrant for a week.
Lilies: Remove the orange pollen-covered anthers before they open fully to avoid stains on petals, tablecloths, and clothing. Lilies last longer than most cut flowers and fill a room with fragrance.
Hydrangea: These are thirsty. Make sure the stem is always in water. If the flower starts to wilt, remove it from the arrangement and prepare a separate vase or container with very hot tap water. Give the stem a sharp cut on angle and place it in your vase. Within 15-20 mins the Hydrangea will revive itself.
Orchids: Keep away from direct sun and let the potting medium dry slightly between waterings. Orchids stay beautiful for weeks with minimal attention.
With consistent care, a hand delivered arrangement from Bita Floral should look good for seven to ten days. Water changes are what make the difference.
Pre-order by May 4. Delivered fresh for May 10.

About the Author
Rouz is the owner and lead designer at Bita Floral, a flower shop at 728 Anderson St. in Whitby. He's been running the shop since 2020 and has built it into one of Durham Region's most reviewed independent florists, carrying a 4.9-star rating across 182 Google reviews. Every arrangement goes through him personally. Call the shop and describe what you're looking for, and you're talking to Rouz. Come in with a photo and a colour you like, and he's the one who translates that into a finished piece. He grew up around flowers and learned early that an arrangement should feel considered and specific to the person receiving it, not pulled off a shelf. When something arrives at someone's door on Mothers Day, his hands were on it.
"My mom started this shop. She built it from the ground up. She put real work into it, not just the flowers but the relationships with customers and the reputation in the community. When she was ready to step back, I took it on. Not just because it was the family business but because I saw what it meant to her and to the people who walked through that door. Honoring what she built is important to me. So is making it my own. That's the balance I work with every day."
Bita Floral was named Best Florist in Whitby by Quality Business Awards Canada in both 2025 and 2026. Rouz is available for wedding and event consultations through the shop or at bitafloral.ca.
